The All-on-X Procedure: Step-by-Step Guide

The All-on-X Procedure: Step-by-Step Guide

20 April Sun, 2025

The All-on-X procedure involves several steps, all aimed at ensuring a smooth, successful outcome. While the exact process may vary depending on individual circumstances, here's a general overview of what you can expect from the treatment.

  1. Consultation and Evaluation
The first step in the All-on-X procedure is a thorough consultation with your implant dentist. During this visit, your dentist will evaluate your oral health, take digital scans or X-rays of your jaw, and discuss your medical history. Based on this information, the dentist will determine whether All-on-X is the best solution for you and design a personalized treatment plan.

  2. Implant Placement
Once your treatment plan is finalized, the next step is the surgical placement of the implants. The dentist will make small incisions in the gums and place the implants in the jawbone. Depending on your case, 4, 5, or more implants will be strategically placed to ensure maximum stability and support for your new teeth. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, and sedation options may be offered for added comfort.

  3. Temporary Prosthesis Placement
After the implants are placed, a temporary prosthesis is attached to the implants. This allows you to leave the office with a fully functional set of teeth while your jawbone heals and the implants integrate. The temporary teeth are designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable, allowing you to resume normal activities quickly.

  4. Healing and Integration
Over the next few months, the implants will fuse with your jawbone in a process known as osseointegration. During this time, you will have regular checkups with your dentist to monitor the healing process and ensure that the implants are properly integrating with the bone. In most cases, healing takes 3 to 6 months.

  5. Permanent Prosthesis Placement
Once the implants have fully integrated with the bone, your dentist will replace the temporary prosthesis with a custom-made, permanent set of teeth. These prosthetic teeth will be designed to match the natural appearance of your existing teeth and will be securely attached to the implants, providing long-lasting stability and functionality.
